The first thing we notice after moving here from California is the sheer quantity of grocery stores. There are a lot of chains here. It might seem confusing in the beginning but after a little bit of trial and error you will probably zone in on the ones you like more. To help make things a bit easier, here’s a quick list of the supermarkets we have been known to pop into.
High End
- Whole foods (2 Raleigh locations – Six Forks and Wade Ave)
- Fresh Market (2 Raleigh locations – Falls of Neuse and Woodburn Rd)
- Harris Teeter (includes gas stations at some locations and enough Vic points can earn you a decent discount on gas). HT is all over and has an excellent online shopping and drive-thru pick-up service. We use this weekly.
Mid Level
- Lowes Foods
- Wegmans – Wegman’s brand products are of excellent quality and cheap! Our current favorites are their salad dressings and flavored sparkling water.
- Sprouts
- Trader Joe’s
- Lidl – This German store has great prices but is not a one-stop shop. Their bakery, however, is incredible as is their misc products section. I stock up on craft supplies for the kids.
- Publix – Amazing bakery
- Target – reliable for some necessities but hard to walk out without spending WAY MORE than intended.
Cost Savings
WholeSale
- Costco (includes gas stations)
- Aldi
- Sam’s Club (includes gas stations)
- BJ’s (includes gas stations)
