Interview with Terri Kissiah from Neat NC

Today we feature an interview with one of our partners- Terri Kissiah, Owner, and CEO of Neat NC

First, tell us about yourself.

Hi!  I’m Terri Kissiah, owner, and CEO of Neat NC. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband Rick for 22 years, and am a mother of two smart, amazing boys.  Before starting Neat NC, I worked in project management for 15 years and that experience has been invaluable to help grow my business.

What is Neat NC?

In a nutshell, Neat NC is a women-owned and operated luxury concierge relocation service that handles all aspects of a relocation for our clients. Our goal is to provide a stress-free, hands-off relocation for people who don’t have the time (or energy!) to deal with the hassle and headache of settling into a new home.

 

We help our clients “right-size” to the next stage of their lives–whether that is moving to a larger home, a smaller home, or transitioning to a retirement/assisted living residence. From packing up to securing moving services to unpacking after the move, the Neat NC team of professional organizers takes care of it all. We even strategically partner with local businesses to coordinate movers, handymen, cleaners, “go green” moving box providers and haul-away services. We do it all so our clients can continue their busy lives with minimal interruption.

 

Our premier move-out service includes a two-day careful packing of all belongings, streamlining and organizing personal items with haul away, and cleaning services as we go. We also coordinate and supervise the move so the clients can continue to work or see their family.

On the other end, our amazing whole-house move IN service is truly magic. We send in a fully vetted and background checked team of 15-20 professional organizers to unpack every box, and organize and style all living spaces including the pantry and closets with organizing materials (we provide a style guide to clients so we can do curated shopping for materials that fit their style and taste).

We also assemble and make all the beds ready for immediate use, clean all areas we organize, remove all boxes and packaging remnants from the home, bring in a handyman to hang ceiling fans, TVs, and pictures, and finally, at the end of the day, provide a chef to cook a gourmet meal in their new kitchen.  Best of all, we do it IN ONE DAY! Our clients start their lives in their new home from day one.  Our service is invaluable!

What made you decide to create this business?

Neat NC was born out of my desire to help people turn what is typically a stressful situation into what it should be–a celebration. When I was younger, I moved a lot and saw what a toll each move took on my parents. Now, as an adult with a few moves under my belt, I can attest to the fact that moving is by far one of the most stressful events in your life. My mission is to relieve our clients of this burden and handle all of the problems that typically accompany a move so my clients don’t have to.

What is the best part of your work?

The best part of my work is really two-fold.  First, my passion is to truly help families relocate to their new residence stress-free.  Our team can accomplish in one day what takes one or two people months! The gratefulness our clients feel when we completely relieve the burdens of moving totally fills my bucket. We consider what we do to be life-changing!

 

Additionally, it has been my absolute joy to build this business from the ground up and watch it grow with our fabulous team of women!  More specifically, the mentorship program I started is giving high school and college students a place to thrive, learn new leadership skills, and develop confidence. I absolutely love helping the next generation of women blossom into future leaders themselves!

Any interesting or cool, moving story you can share?

Recently we helped a client pack up his home for a cross-country move. It was very important to him that his wife, who had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, not be anxious or stressed about any aspect of the pack up, including the handling of several sets of fine china and Waterford crystal.

 

After seeing the team come in and watching how efficiently and carefully we worked, he booked us for additional time and even threw us a lunch party on the second day complete with a cake that read “NEAT NC ROCKS!” I’ve never had a client more appreciative.  But he saw the value in the work we do and quickly realized he could have never taken on packing his whole house by himself, especially in the time span he needed.  It took us two days to pack a house that would have taken him months to do on his own.  Neat NC was like magic for him!

What is the most important thing people should do when they move to the area?

Well, first of all, they should hire Neat NC to provide a full move-in service so that they can begin enjoying their new home from day one! Next, they should just start exploring! A great way to do this is to follow local bloggers on social media like Instagram to learn more about restaurants and activities in the area. Sites like Visit NC and Our State Magazine are great resources too!

What do you love about the Triangle?

There’s so much to do here! Not only do we have the BEST mountains and beaches, we have our greenways, parks, college campuses and the local food is to die for.  Hop in the car and drive! You can be just about anywhere locally in 25 minutes or less! It’s the perfect place to live!
